I have always wanted open shelving in my kitchen. It is arguably one of the biggest trends in kitchen design right now. I was a little hesitant and afraid to expose all my clutter and imagine how dirty and greasy everything would get! How practical would it be?
Here is why and how I did it, and why and how it works for me.
I cannot believe I forgot to take a picture before I took the doors off.
Here is a picture before I painted everything white. I blogged about this here.
You can see the cupboard door.
I took the doors off.
I took the doors off of two cupboards that faced each other in this very tiny kitchen.
Every kitchen should have some sort of open shelving. It opens up the space and makes the kitchen feel brighter and larger.
All closed cabinets can make the space feel heavy and dense.
I added a wood embellishment on the end.
Opening up the cupboards gives you the opportunity to add personality.
You could consider painting or wallpapering the back wall. How fun and bright this could be!
Remember you don’t have to bare all just bare some!
Use this opportunity to display your best dishes.
Consider white. One color works best. Keep in mind to let your shelves breathe.
If you use your every day dishes there is no worry about the dishes getting dirty or greasy.
Open shelving works great if you like to change things up and add seasonal decor!
Now is the time to be show off!!
Here are some more photos to inspire you!
I love the bead board on the back wall of the shelves. Adds some great texture.
Here is a great opportunity to add a sliding door and a black board. I love this idea! Again more bead board. So much personality!
If you are a cook book lover what a great way to give your kitchen a color boost and display some of your favorites.
How cute is this kitchen. More bead board! I think I see a pattern here, if you love the country or farmhouse look. Imagine how different this space would look if the cabinet doors were put back on.
Another lesson on how open cupboards opens up the space.
Loving the plate rack because it keeps your dishes handy and organized. Why deny your space some personalty by closing the cupboard doors?
Are you convinced yet?
It’s a Room Changer!!!
